Insane Attacking Stats against Top Teams at Anfield Bodes Well For Next Season
In a season of worries and struggles, this feels huge
To expect consistency from this Liverpool team, this season – given all the issues (injuries, integrating younger players and new players, fatigue carried over from last season) – seems foolish. It's asking too much.
But the last two home games, against the league leaders and the fiercest rivals who were in top form, have seen seven goals put past Man United, and posted one of the biggest attacking xG totals ever in the history of xG, against Arsenal.
Things really clicked in the second half against the Gunners, as it did against United; and there was a nice contrast to the Man United game, even if the finishing wasn't as ruthless.
There were also other huge positives, after a first half where, for 40 minutes, I thought I'd struggle to have anything good to say. Instead, what came after felt like a big injection of belief, leaving me full of positives.
Indeed, Liverpool have a surprise creative genius, and two barely-used (injured/new) players who outscore xG to a point where they could be invaluable in a season where, otherwise, the Reds have been below-par on finishing.
